So last night I was laying in bed scrolling through my Instagram timeline, just like I do every night. While scrolling through my news feed, I came across Kylie Jenner's Instagram featuring herself and Caitlin Jenner, formally known as Bruce Jenner.
In this picture, Kylie's wearing blue lipstick. To me, Kylie wearing blue lipstick didn't surprise me so I didn't think anything of it. Then I read her caption which said, "Wearing blue lips today in honor of world bullying prevention. #BlueShirtDay2015 #WorldBullyingPreventionDay wear blue and post a pic with the hashtags! Spread love & you will receive. Nothing can be done if we don't do it together!"
I wanted to learn more about these hashtags so I decided to click the hashtags to see what other people have posted with the same hashtags. To see that thousands of people and celebrities are spreading the love over one little Instagram picture can make a difference in someone's life, is incredible.
Here's a link to the trending hashtags of #WorldBullyingPreventionDay.

I know people hate the Kardashians/Jenners and we always have to ask ourselves, "How/Why is this family such a big part of our society again?" But we have to give some snaps to Kylie Jenner lately. She's been posting a numerous amount of Instagrams of people that are telling their story just to spread awareness. It's celebrities like Kylie Jenner that have millions of followers that we need to show what cruel things are happening to people in this world. It's something as simple as taking a picture with blue lipstick to spread awareness for those that need it the most.

Devin,
ReplyDeleteI have to admit that I have never been apart of the Kardashian/Jenner fan club but as you said, they do deserve "snaps" for this! Such a beautiful thing to do for others who may not have a voice for themselves! Thank you for sharing!
Devin,
ReplyDeleteBefore this class I had not spent a lot of time on Instagram, so I am just now learning about the ways that one can spread awareness through picture blogging. To tell you the truth I did not know that there was such a thing as picture blogging until recently either. I think that I am feeling old. LOL
I like how you pointed out this particular awareness movement though! I did not know that it existed, but I think that I may just be posting a picture onto Instagram of me wearing something blue soon! Bullying is something that is close to my heart. I was bullied a lot as a child for various reasons and it took me years to see that it was not so much me as it was them. I wish that social media like this had existed when I was a child. Seeing celebrities promote awareness and caring about those that are bullied may have helped me through some really rough times!
I like your choice in your call to action here! Thank you so much for teaching me something new!
I hope that you have a great day!

I will be honest when I say Keeping Up With the Kardashians is a guilty pleasure of mine haha. One reason is because these ladies are not afraid to speak out on topics like this! I think having affluential people use their fanbase to spread this message is great!

Devin,
ReplyDeleteI have never watched anything with the Kardashian clan, but I believe what is being done is a great thing. I agree with you that it is amazing seeing celebrities using social media or their fame to spread awareness about a topic or a cause. I actually did not know about Wold Bullying Prevention Day until I read your post and the fact that you learned about it from social media is a great thing because it really showcases how our culture communicates now and the best ways to help make a change.
For my blog I talk about a "ripple effect" that social media or any type of media can have on making a change in the world, especially with philanthropies, I feel your post hits everything I am passionate about and I want to thank you for sharing this, because it is another amazing way to spread the word about something and make an impact on people.

I found your blog to very enlightening regarding bullying and how Kylie Jenner along with other people used social media as a way to spread such an important message that touches the lives of so many people. Due to the importance of bullying and how it is done so often especially by way of social media it's good to see that such a large group of people speak out about through that same form. Hopefully in making noise about the situation and being against it through the same form people do it, it will hopefully cause people to stop using it as their way of bullying knowing so many people have taken a stand against it. Great read and good information regarding those hashtags.
